What Are Continuous Cast Billets?
A continuous cast billet is a semi-finished steel product manufactured by continuously solidifying molten steel into a predetermined cross-sectional shape, commonly a square section.
In the continuous casting process, molten stainless steel passes through a water-cooled mould and is progressively solidified while being withdrawn from the caster. The resulting billet is cut into specified lengths for further processing.
Unlike conventionally cast ingots, which are solidified individually in stationary moulds, continuous casting produces steel in a continuous sequence. This manufacturing route is widely used for producing semi-finished feedstock for subsequent hot-working operations.
Stainless steel continuous cast billets are not finished steel products. They are intermediate products that can be further converted into bars, sections, forged components and other long products through rolling, forging or other downstream processes.
How Are Stainless Steel CC Billets Manufactured?
The manufacturing route for continuous cast billets generally involves controlled melting, chemistry adjustment, continuous casting and billet cutting.
